BUCKET HAT BUZZ!

Today, the learners explored the exciting world of bucket hats by drafting their own hat patterns onto fabric of their choice.
They carefully measured, traced, and cut out each piece, learning the importance of precision in pattern work. As part of the process, they were introduced to interfacing a special material used to give structure and support to parts of a garment.
They learned how to apply interfacing to their fabric, especially in areas like the brim, to help the hat hold its shape and last longer.
This hands-on activity not only enhanced their sewing skills but also deepened their understanding of how materials work together in fashion design.
LEARNING WHILE SEWING

In addition to practical sewing lessons, I also teach my clients using a course book that supports the sewing projects included in the program. The course book provides clear, step-by-step instructions, helpful illustrations, and explanations of key sewing techniques. It allows clients to follow along more easily, reinforce what they learn during hands-on activities, and build their confidence as they progress. Using the course book alongside practical teaching helps ensure a well-rounded and effective learning experience.
Completing the course book at home gives learners the chance to review key techniques and reinforce what they learned in class. It allows them to work at their own pace, reflect on the day’s activities, and come back better prepared for the next session.
This approach supports independent learning and helps build a stronger foundation in sewing. It also gives learners a sense of accomplishment as they track their progress and see how their skills are developing over time.
Sewing Machine 101
Date: 9th July 2025
As part of the sewing course, learners took part in an engaging session using their course books to explore the functions and features of the sewing machine.
The activity supported a deeper understanding of essential components and safe usage. Through structured learning and hands-on guidance, each student is building confidence and developing strong foundational skills for their sewing journey.
Introduction to Seam Work
Date: 2nd July 2025
In today’s session, clients explored various types of seams and their purposes in garment construction. They gained an understanding of how different seams serve both functional and aesthetic roles in sewing.
The session included hands-on practice, where clients learned how to construct open seams and welt seams, helping them build confidence and precision in their sewing techniques.
Clients have also begun keeping a journal to document their practice work. In these journals, they reflect on what they did, how they did it, and identify areas for improvement. This reflective practice encourages personal growth, deeper learning, and helps track progress over time.

A Warm Welcome to New Sewing Stars!

The sewing class turned out wonderfully, with new participants joining in and quickly getting the hang of it. Great energy, focus, and fantastic progress all around!
Stitching the First Thread: A New Beinning in Sewing
During the first sewing session, clients came together with enthusiasm to begin learning a new and valuable skill. The atmosphere was welcoming and supportive, as participants were introduced to basic sewing techniques and tools. Guided step-by-step, they participated stitching and familiarised themselves with the domestic sewing machines. This session marked the start of their creative journey, giving clients the confidence to continue developing their skills while building a sense of community and accomplishement.
